WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 16, 2019 – In honor of World Food Day today, Brian MacNair, former executive director of World Central Kitchen and DC Central Kitchen, and Amir Mostafavi, founder and CEO of South Block, announce Fruitful Planet, a nonprofit organization providing healthy fruits and vegetables to underserved children and families throughout the region. Since opening in 2011 as Northern Virginia’s first cold-pressed micro-juicery known for its “Instagram-able” acai bowls, South Block has expanded to 10 stores and remains passionate about building healthier communities. Through Fruitful Planet, the company will increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables in low-income areas, working alongside MacNair to share its mission far and wide on World Food Day.

To mark this international day of awareness building for hunger across the globe, South Block will galvanize support for Fruitful Planet by donating 10% of profits from all 10 locations to the organization.

“Fruitful Planet is a natural extension of South Block and our commitment to integrity, honesty, and community betterment in both our business and our products,” said Mostafavi. “We see an important parallel between the message of World Food Day and the mission of Fruitful Planet, and are launching the organization today to help those in need lead the fruitful lives they deserve.”
